When installing a new version of the bundled software, or software downloaded from the Canon homepage, what happens to the previous version?

In any of the following cases, the previous version does not need to be uninstalled.

When installing a new software version supplied with your second or subsequent Canon cameras, or that you have downloaded from the Canon homepage.
When updating the software to the latest version by using an updater
