Printing Does Not Start

    Issue


    Cause and Solution

    Ink tank is empty
    See [ An Error Message Is Displayed on the LCD ] to identify the ink error, and then take the appropriate action depending on the error condition.

    Ink tank not installed in proper position
    Open the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) and check the ink lamps.
    If there is still sufficient ink but its ink lamp is flashing red, an ink tank may be installed in a wrong position.
    Confirm that the ink tanks are installed in the appropriate positions. See [ Replacing Ink Tanks ].

    Ink tank is not installed securely
    Open the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) and check the ink lamps.
    If the ink lamp is not lit, press the mark on the ink tank until it clicks into place. The ink lamp lights up red when the ink tank is fully inserted.

    Unnecessary print jobs are left in queue / Computer problems
    Restarting your computer may solve the problem.If there are any unnecessary print jobs, follow the procedure below to delete them.
    (Windows)
    1. Open the printer properties dialog box.
    2. Click the Maintenance tab and then View Printer Status.
    The printer status monitor is displayed.
    3. Click Display Print Queue.
    4. Select Cancel All Documents on the Printer menu.
    You may not be able to select this depending on the privileges of the account.
    5. When the confirmation message is displayed, click Yes.
    The print jobs are deleted.
    (Macintosh)
    1. Click the printer icon in the Dock to display the list of print jobs in progress.
    2. Select the print job to delete and click.
    The print jobs are deleted.

    The CD-R Tray is not set properly
    DVD/CD printing will not start if the Inner Cover is closed or the CD-R Tray is not set properly.
    First, make sure that you are using the CD-R Tray supplied with this machine, with an "F" on the upper side.
    Then, open the Inner Cover, properly reset the CD-R Tray on the Inner Cover, and then press the OK button. The machine will resume printing if the problem is resolved.

    The printable DVD/CD is not placed properly on the CD-R Tray
    DVD/CD printing will not start if the DVD/CD is not placed on the CD-R Tray properly.
    First, make sure that you are using the CD-R Tray supplied with this machine, with an "F" on the upper side.
    Then, properly place the DVD/CD on the CD-R Tray, and then press the OK button. The machine will resume printing if the problem is resolved.

    The machine is not ready
    Check if any lamp on the Operation Panel is lit.
    If all the lamps on the Operation Panel are off, press the ON/OFF on the machine. While the COPY button is flashing, the machine Wait until the COPY button stops flashing and remains lit.
    NOTE
    When printing large data such as a photo or graphics, it may take longer to start printing.

    The machine is not connected properly
    Make sure that the USB cable is securely plugged into the USB port of the machine and is connected to the computer.
    • If you are using a relay device such as a USB hub, disconnect it, connect the machine directly to the computer, and try printing again. If printing starts normally, there is a problem with the relay device. Consult the reseller of the relay device for details.
    • There could also be a problem with the USB cable. Replace the USB cable and try printing again. When you use the machine over wired LAN, make sure that the machine is connected to the network with a LAN cable and is set up correctly.

    Inner Cover was open when you started printing
    Close the Inner Cover, then press the OK button on the machine. The machine resumes printing.

    Your machine is not selected in the printer driver
    The machine will not print properly if you are using a driver for a different printer.
    In Windows, make sure that Canon XXX Printer (where "XXX" is your machine's name) is selected in the Print dialog box.
    In Macintosh, make sure that your machine's name is selected in Printer in the Print dialog box.
    REFERENCE
    To make your machine the one selected by default, select Set as Default Printer (Windows) or Make Default (Macintosh).

    The printer port is not configured appropriately (Windows)
    Check the printer port settings.
    * In the following instruction, "XXX" signifies your machine's name.
    (1) Log into a user account with administrator privilege.
    (2) Click Control Panel, then Printer under Hardware and Sound.
    In Windows XP, click Control Panel, Printers and Other Hardware, then Printers and Faxes.
    In Windows 2000, click Control Panel then Printers.
    (3) Right-click the Canon XXX Printer icon, then select Properties.
    (4) Click the Ports tab to confirm the port settings.
    Make sure that a port named USBnnn (where "n" is a number) with Canon XXX Printer appearing in the Printer column is selected for Print to the following port(s).
    If the port setting is not correct, change the port setting according to the interface you are using, or reinstall the MP Drivers.
    REFERENCE
    When the machine is used over wired LAN, the port name of the machine is displayed as "CNBJNP_xxxxxxxxxxxx".
    * "xxxxxxxxxxxx" is the character string generated from the MAC address or a character string specified by the user when setting up the machine.
