    Making Copies
    This section describes the basic procedure to make copies.
    1. Prepare for copying.
    (1) Turn on the machine.
    (2) Press the COPY button to select the copy mode if another mode has been selected.
    (3) Load paper. See [Loading Paper].
    (4) Load the original document on the Platen Glass.

    2. Start copying.
    (1) Confirm the paper source, page size, media type, and other settings.
    NOTE
    Press the Settings button to confirm or change the page size, media type, or other settings. See [Setting Items].

    (2) Use the or button to specify the number of copies.
    (3) The intensity setting is displayed.
    Press the button to decrease the intensity and the button to increase it.
    You can also use auto intensity. See [ Setting Items ].
    (4) Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    The machine starts copying.
    IMPORTANT
    Do not open the Document Cover or remove the original from the Platen Glass until copying is complete.
    NOTE
    • When printing first after changing the media type, the message asking you to confirm the position of the paper thickness lever may appear on the LCD. If this message is displayed, make sure that the paper thickness lever is set appropriately, then press the OK button.
    • To cancel copying, press the Stop/Reset button.

    Reducing or Enlarging a Copy
    You can select from the following reduction/enlargement methods according to your purpose.

    1. Prepare for copying.

    2. Select the reduction/enlargement method.
    (1) Press the Settings button.
    (2) Use the or button to select Tab 1.
    (3) Use the or button to select Magnification, and use the or button to select the reduction/enlargement method.



    • Preset ratio: When you select this reduction/enlargement method and press the OK button to confirm your selection, you can select one of the preset ratios to reduce or enlarge copies. Press the or button to select a preset ratio to match the size of your original document and printing paper.

    (B) A4
    • Zoom (25 - 400%): When you select this reduction/enlargement method and press the OK button to confirm your selection, you can specify the copy ratio as a percentage to reduce or enlarge copies. Press the or button to specify the reduction or enlargement ratio (25 - 400%). Press and hold down the or button to quickly advance through the ratios.



    (A) 125 %
    • Fit-to-page: The machine automatically reduces or enlarges the image to fit the page size.


    NOTE
    • When you choose Fit-to-page, the document size may not be detected correctly depending on the original. In this case, choose Preset ratio or Zoom (25 - 400%).
    • When you want to make a copy that is the same size as the original, select Same magnification.

    3. Finalize the settings.
    (1) Press the Settings button.
    The LCD returns to the copy standby screen.

    4. Start copying.

    Setting Items
    You can change the copy settings such as page size, media type, print quality etc. by using the Settings button.
    NOTE
    • To change the tab, use the or button to select the tab and use the or button.
    • Depending on the functions, some setting items cannot be specified in combination.
    • The settings of the page size, media type, and print quality are retained even if the machine is turned off.

    Tab 1
    You can specify the paper settings for printing or print quality.



    (1) Page size
    Select the page size of the loaded paper.
    (2) Media type
    Select the media type of the loaded paper.
    (3) Print quality
    Adjust print quality according to the original.
    IMPORTANT
    • If you used Fast with media type set to Plain paper and the quality is not as good as expected, select Standard or High and try copying again.
    • Select High to copy in grayscale. Grayscale renders tones in a range of grays instead of black or white.

    (4) Magnification
    Specify the reduction/enlargement method. For details, see [ Reducing or Enlarging a Copy ].

    You can specify auto intensity.



    (1) Auto intensity
    Specify the auto intensity.
    This function automatically adjusts the intensity of the original on the Platen Glass.
    When Auto intensity ON is selected, AUTO appears in the intensity slide bar on the LCD.


    IMPORTANT
    Even while Auto intensity ON is selected, you can change the intensity by using the or button. Move the cursor to the center of the slide bar to enable auto intensity again.
