Corporate Philosophy behind Corporate Social Responsibility

iCare Project

Together, we can make a difference
For a corporate to be socially responsible and making its CSR activities as effective and sustained, employees are encouraged to give it back to the society and demonstrate responsible behaviors to address social issues iCare Project for Canon demonstrates commitment towards two causes:

  • Encouraging employees who wants to demonstrate that they care for our society, by associating with causes which are close to their heart.
  • Eye Care, taking care of the gift of vision that we are blessed with.

More about iCare Project

Canon launched its core CSR project in the area of eye care prevention and rehabilitation of visually challenged in the year 2008.

Our official partners in this cause is Venu Eye Institute and Research Center
The genesis of Venu Charitable Society (VCS) was laid down in 1980 with a humble beginning in the form of informal, community need-driven eye care initiative. Venu soon became a pioneer in eye care and low vision interventions to the underprivileged. This done through a robust three-tier eye care delivery network which is one of the largest in the country. The three tier includes:

  1. Super specialized hospital, The & Research Centre.
  2. Five secondary satellite hospitals located in peri -urban and rural settings which further spread out to over two dozen mobile eye care clinics.
  3. Vision centres and smaller clinics run at the primary grass-root level.

Venu has reached out into various rural and underprivileged areas and performed where literally no eye care service provider exists. We also associated with Sankara Eye Institute and Art of Living Foundation to take our cause further towards South India.

Prevention, as first step
To prevent blindness, one of the primary task is creating awareness and diagnosis. This is followed by treatment and rehabilitation. In partnership with Venu, screening camps are organized continuously especially focusing on children.

2008 Efforts towards Preventive eye care

  • In partnership with Venu, 11220 children were screened in 31 schools. In the process glasses were provided and prescribed to 491 children, 11 children diagnosed with cataract and those who needed financial assistance were sponsored for surgery.
  • In partnership with Sankara Eye Institute, we conducted eye screening camp at Art of Living Foundation covering 552 children of which 16 were given post screening assistance.
  • Canon also contributed financially and as a team towards this cause by participating in Half Marathon 2008 in Delhi and Hyderabad. Canon Enthusiasts ran along with their spouses and lots of enthusiasm, cheers and claps by the onlookers and celebrities who came to cheer the marathon runners.

2009 Efforts towards Preventive eye care

  • In Q1 2009, we conducted 79 camps, screening 11477 patients.
  • Canon staff volunteered to organize these camps and also educate children on how to take care of the gift of vision that they have. Canon volunteers can take official time off from their work to be a part of this noble cause
  • In-house education campaign to educate staff on prevention of eye diseases was initiated by CSR Team.
