NOTE
- The following procedures are explained using sample screens from Windows XP Professional.
- Before the installation, make sure the following:
- For Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista/Server 2008, log on as Administrator to install the software.
- Make sure the machine is turned ON.
- Make sure the network cable is connected to the machine.
- Make sure an IP address is assigned to the machine.
1. Connect the machine to the network correctly, and confirm that the power is ON.
2. Insert the UFR II/FAX User Software CD-ROM.
3. Click [Install] on the CD-Rom Setup screen.
If the CD-ROM Setup screen is not displayed, click [start] on the Windows task bar -> [My Computer].
Windows Vista/Server 2008: click [Start] on the Windows task bar -> [Computer].
Windows 2000: double-click [My Computer] on the Windows desktop.
Open the CD-ROM icon, then double-click [MInst] ([MInst.exe]).
4. Check the boxes next to the UFRII Printer Driver, FAX Driver and Color Network ScanGear and click [Install].
NOTE
- The procedure explains the UFR II Printer Driver, FAX Driver, and Color Network ScanGear altogether is explained. If you want to select and install a specific driver, select the driver and click [Install].
- If you want to install only the fax driver, select only FAX Driver in this step, then proceed to step 13. For more information, refer to the Fax Driver Installation Guide (located on the UFR II/FAX CD-ROM).
- If you want to install only the PCL Driver (imageCLASS MF9170C Only), proceed to step 25. For more information, refer to the PCL Driver installation Guide (located on the PCL CDROM).
- If the amount of free disk space is insufficient to install the software, an error message is displayed. Make sure there is sufficient disk space, and then try installing the software again.
5. Click [Next] on the [UFR II Printer Driver Setup Wizard] screen.
6. Read the LICENCE AGREEMENT carefully and click [Yes].
7. Select [Search for Network Printers to Install] and press [Next].
If you are using a shared printer in the Print Server (Point and Print) environment, it is necessary to install the Canon Driver Information Assist Service in the server PC to set up the printer configuration automatically or use the Job Accounting feature.
NOTE
- If the Canon Driver Information Assist Service is already installed on your computer, this screen is not displayed.
- If you are using an operating system equipped with Windows Firewall, the following message box may appear. If you want to use Canon Driver Information Assist Service, click [Yes]. If you select [No], you cannot use Canon Driver Information Assist Service.
9. From the Printer List, select the printer driver you want to install and click [Add].
Select [Canon MF 9100/9300 UFR II LT], if you are using the imageCLASS MF9170C, or select [Canon MF8400 UFR II LT)], if you are using the imageCLASS MF8450C.
10. Make sure that the printer driver you want to install is in the Printer List for Driver Installation, click [Next].
13. Click [Next] on the [Fax Driver Setup Wizard] screen.
14. Read the LICENCE AGREEMENT carefully and click [Yes].
15. Select [Search for Network Printers to Install] and press [Next].
If you are going to use the machine as a shared printer in the Print Server (Point and Print) environment, it is necessary to install the Canon Driver Information Assist Service in the server PC to set up the printer configuration automatically or use the Job Accounting feature.
NOTE
- If the Canon Driver Information Assist Service is already installed on your computer, this screen is not displayed.
- If you are using an operating system equipped with Windows Firewall, the following message box may appear. If you want to use Canon Driver Information Assist Service, click [Yes]. If you select [No], you cannot use Canon Driver Information Assist Service.
17. From the Fax List, select the fax driver you want to install and click [Add].
Select [Canon MF 9100/9300(FAX)], if you are using the imageCLASS MF9170C, or select [Canon MF8400 (FAX)], if you are using the imageCLASS MF8450C.
18. Make sure that the fax driver you want to install is in the Fax List for Driver Installation, click [Next].
21. The Color Network ScanGear installation screen appears. Follow the on-screen instructions.
22. After all the drivers have been installed, click [Next].
23. Check [Restart Computer Now (Recommended)] and click [Restart].
24. Remove the UFR II/FAX User Software CD-ROM.
For the user of imageCLASS MF8450C, installation is complete.
For the user of imageCLASS MF9170C, go to the next step to install PCL Driver.
25. Insert the PCL User Software CD-ROM (imageCLASS MF9170C only).
26. Click [Install] on the CD-Rom Setup screen.
If the CD-ROM Setup screen is not displayed, click [start] on the Windows task bar -> [My Computer].
Windows Vista/Server 2008: click [Start] on the Windows task bar -> [Computer].
Windows 2000: double-click [My Computer] on the Windows desktop.
Open the CD-ROM icon, then double-click [MInst] ([MInst.exe]).
27. Select the PCL Printer Driver and click [Install].
28. Read the LICENCE AGREEMENT carefully and press [Yes].
29. Click [Next] on the [PCL Printer Driver Setup Wizard] screen.
30. Select [Search for Network Printers to Install] and press [Next].
31. Select [PCL5e/5c Printer Driver] or [PCL6 Printer Driver] and cllick [Next].
NOTE
- If you are going to use the machine as a shared printer in the Print Server (Point and Print) environment, it is necessary to install the Canon Driver Information Assist Service in the server PC to set up the printer configuration automatically or use the Job Accounting feature.
- If the Canon Driver Information Assist Service is already installed on your computer, this screen is not displayed.
- If you are using an operating system equipped with Windows Firewall, the following message box may appear. If you want to use Canon Driver Information Assist Service, click [Yes]. If you select [No], you cannot use Canon Driver Information Assist Service.
33. Select [Canon MF9100/9300 PCL5e] or [Canon MF9100/9300 PCL6], and click [Add].
38. Check [Restart Computer Now (Recommended)] and click [Restart].
39. Remove the PCL User Software CD-ROM. Installation is complete.
Checking the Installation
Verify that the driver has been installed successfully and that the machine has been set as the default printer.
NOTE
If the name of your machine is selected on the [Printer] screen from an application, the machine is set as the default printer.
1. Open the [Printers and Faxes] folder (for Windows 2000: The [Printers] dialog box).
Windows XP/Server2003: From the Windows task bar, click [Start] -> select [Printers and Faxes].
Windows Server 2008: From the Windows task bar, click [Start] -> select [Control Panel] -> double-click [Printers].
Windows Vista: From the Windows task bar, click [Start] -> select [Control Panel] -> [Hardware and Sound] -> double-click [Printers].
Windows 2000: From the Windows task bar, click [Start] -> [Settings] -> [Control Panel] -> double-click [Printers].
Verify that the corresponding printer driver icon is displayed.
2. Set your machine as the default printer.
Verify that printer icon for this machine. Click [Set as Default Printer] from the [File] menu.
3. Verify that [Color Network ScanGear] appears in the program list.
Windows XP/Server2003: From the Windows task bar, click [Start] -> select [All Programs].
Windows Vista/Server 2008: From the Windows task bar, click [Start] -> select [All Programs].
Windows 2000: From the Windows task bar, click [Start] -> [Programs].
Verify that the [Color Network ScanGear] is listed in [All Programs] (or [Programs]).
