Confirm the paper conditions
- Ensure that the paper is not too thick.
Auto Sheet Feeder: Up to 105 gsm / 28 lb (plain paper except for supported Canon genuine media)
*However, you can use art paper that is not produced by Canon that is up to 200 gsm / 53 lb.
Front Tray: Up to 1.2 mm / 47 mil
- Ensure that the number of sheets loaded does not exceed the recommended level.
When printing on plain paper (64 gsm / 17 lb), load up to 150 sheets in the Auto Sheet Feeder.
However, the paper may not feed correctly depending on the type of paper and the environment (high temperature / high humidity / low temperature / low humidity). If this happens, reduce the number of sheets of paper by about half (approximately 5 mm / 0.2 inches).
- Ensure that the paper is not creased, curled, or wrinkled.
Make sure of the following when you load paper into the printer
When loading paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder
- When loading several sheets of paper, flatten the edges of the paper before loading.
- Slide the Paper Guide until it touches the left edge of paper.
- Be sure to set the paper to portrait regardless of the direction to print.
When loading paper in the Front Tray
- Load one sheet at a time.
- Insert the paper straight into the Front Tray so that the front edge of the paper aligns with the mark on the Front Tray.
- Align the right edge of the paper against the right side of the Front Tray.
- Be sure to set the paper to portrait regardless of the direction to print.
If you are using art paper that is not produced by Canon, ensure that the paper is 200 gsm (53 lb) or less
Printing cannot be done from the Auto Sheet Feeder if the paper is too heavy. Check the paper's package for information on its weight. If it is more than 200 gsm (53 lb), load it in the Front Tray.
Ensure that there is no foreign object in the Auto Sheet Feeder or Front Tray
You may need to clean the Paper Feed Rollers. Follow the procedure below
Cleaning the Paper Feed Rollers consumes them, so perform this procedure only when necessary.
NOTE
Ensure that the Inner Cover is closed.
1. Ensure that the printer is turned on.
If any paper is loaded in the printer, remove the paper.
2. Gently press the
mark on the Front Tray to open the Front Tray, then pull out the Front Tray Extension.
3. Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button; when the POWER lamp flashes blue three times, release the button.
The Paper Feed Rollers will rotate as they clean.
4. Repeat step 3 twice.
5. Load a stack of plain paper in the Auto Sheet Feeder.
6. Hold down the RESUME/CANCEL button; when the POWER lamp flashes blue three times, release the button.
The paper cleans the inside of the printer as it feeds through the printer.
7. Repeat step 6 three times.
If repeating this procedure three times or more does not solve the problem, contact a Canon service representative.
Ensure that the Inner Cover is closed completely
Close the Inner Cover completely. Paper does not feed properly if the Inner Cover is even slightly open.
