Canon announces EOS R50 V with RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ Lens – A Cinema-Grade Camera for Creators
Announcing the New EOS V-series of mirrorless cameras
NEW DELHI, 27 March 2025 – Canon today announced the EOS R50 V and RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ. The first of its kind in Canon’s product lineup, the new video-centric interchangeable lens camera and lens with a built-in power zoom are poised to address the needs of next-generation content creators.
With the launch of the EOS V-series and RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ, video production will be effortless as users can now switch between video shooting styles easily. The EOS R50 V is tailored for specific needs, offering creators the optimal experience in video and stills output.
Video-Centric Ergonomics
Designed to be lightweight and streamlined for video shooting, the EOS R50 V is built without a viewfinder. Its compact body is easily supported by grips and gimbals, reducing fatigue for creators who shoot for long periods. In comparison with its predecessors, the EOS R50 V is more optimised for vertical shooting with its vertical shooting tripod socket on the side, an auto-rotating shooting information display, a grip design and button layout. These features allow users to conveniently start and stop recording even when shooting vertically.
There is also a new video-centric button and control layout that includes a movie-focused mode dial, dedicated buttons providing one-touch access to livestreaming and colour modes. The EOS R50 V makes use of Canon’s versatile RF mount that natively supports over 45 lenses and its 24.2-megapixel APS-C sensor, which is like the Super 35mm sensor in cinema cameras such as the EOS C70.
Rich Creative Features
The EOS R50 V is equipped with recording modes that cater to advanced post-production needs, such as Canon Log 3, which records a wider dynamic range suitable for colour grading; uncropped oversampled 4K 30p videos and cropped 4K 60p videos, and Full HD 100p/120p with audio. These features will help creators make stunning, cinematic videos easily.
In addition, there are 14 colour filters that allow users to adjust the look of their footage in-camera, a new Slow & Fast Motion movie mode to create 4K slow-motion and time lapse videos that play back at 1/2.5x speed and 60x speed respectively. Cinema View, a new feature of the EOS R50 V, sets cinematic angles of view and frame rates to create expressive film-like movies. Users can also explore more slow-motion possibilities with the full HD 100p/120p recording with audio available in the EOS R50 V.
For more technical filming elements, users can utilise professional display tools such as false colours and zebras. When combined with powerful core performance features like the precise and reliable Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system, Register People Priority mode, and Movie Digital IS, creators will find the advanced aspects of footage creation more manageable, thus allowing them to focus on expressing their creativity.
Professional Workflow Readiness
The EOS R50 V prepares advanced users for a more professional post-production workflow that is found on more advanced EOS R series cameras such as the EOS R5 Mark II and EOS R1. The workflow includes features like the Cinema EOS system’s XF-HEVC S / XF-AVC S recording formats, Custom Pictures professional imaging feature and support for LUTs.
In terms of audio, the EOS R50 V is equipped with 3-mic noise reduction technology that detects and reduces unwanted noise from inside the camera. Support for LPCM 24-bit 4-channel audio input eases the post-processing workflow for projects with multiple audio sources such as interviews, outdoor takes with dialogue, or concerts.
High-Quality Livestreaming and Stills Shooting
There is a new livestreaming button that has been added to the EOS R50 V, allowing creators to carry out livestreaming directly. Users can choose from four streaming methods that range from connecting wirelessly through Camera Connect or the Live Switcher Mobile app, through HDMI via a switcher, or with a USB-C cable. Creators can enhance their livestreaming via the Live Switcher Mobile Multi-Camera app, which allows them to combine video streaming from the camera with those from other smart devices for multi-angle livestreaming.
When livestreaming via a USB-C connection, cropped 4K 60p livestreaming is supported, making it possible for content viewers to enjoy concerts or sporting events in vivid detail, even on a large home theatre screen. Creators can apply the Smooth Skin Movie mode to reduce blemishes and pores, and Movie for Close-Up Demos AF to create a better viewing experience. Despite being video-centric, the EOS R50 V is also a capable stills camera, with AF and subject detection capabilities that have improved from the EOS R50.
RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ: First Lens with Built-In Power Zoom
Compact and lightweight at just around 6cm long and approximately 181g, the RF-S 14-30mm F4-6.3 IS STM PZ is Canon’s first-ever RF lens with built-in power zooming. Users can perform controlled servo zooming with either the lens’ zoom ring or zoom lever on the EOS R50 V. There are 15 speed values that can be selected in a 2-level switch operation. Both zoom ring and zoom lever speeds can be customised separately. Remote zoom control via the Camera Connect smartphone app is also achievable. The fixed-length design keeps the centre of gravity consistent when zooming, which is important when one is working with a gimbal or other similar equipment.
The lens is also designed for handheld still and video shooting, offering up to 5 stops’ built-in image stabilisation for stills and 5-axis image stabilisation for video when used with a camera that has Movie Digital IS. It also facilitates even more effective image stabilisation through Coordinated Control IS when used with a camera with In-Body IS.
The lens’ wide-angle 22.4 to 48mm equivalent angle of view offers better usability for video shooting as compared to other conventional kit lenses. It zooms in to 30mm (48mm equivalent) at its long end, creating flattering, natural-looking close-up shots of faces. The lens also offers 0.15m closest focusing distance and 0.38x maximum magnification, which are ideal for creators who need to showcase products, details, and small subjects up close.
