The red kite, with the scientific name Milvus milvus, is a bird of prey with a graceful contrast of white and reddish brown. Because of its beauty, the red kite was overhunted in Europe to make stuffed birds (taxidermy), and its population declined rapidly. The precise AF performance of the RF100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM captures the graceful flight of this red kite from the front.
    EOS R5 • RF100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM • 300mm • 1/4000 sec. • f/5.6 • ISO4000

This is the moment when the RF100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM caught the moment the red kite made a dive for its prey on the surface of the water with its manoeuvrability and precise autofocus. Although the flight was extremely quick, the fearless expression and sharp claws were evident in this dynamic image.

    Robert Marc Lehmann (German)

Born in the former East German city of Jena, Robert's ethos stems from a childhood fascination with nature, which began while he was exploring local wildlife with his grandfather. This evolved into a keen interest in marine biology, spurred on by reading a book about sharks.

"Nature has been my favourite topic for as long as I can remember,"reveals Robert. "I used to cut out pictures of marine animals from encyclopaedias, which made my mother really angry!"
