    Solution

    Making Copies
    This section describes the procedure to copy a document of A4 size on plain paper.



    - You need to prepare:
    Originals to copy.
    Paper for printing.

    1. Prepare for copying.
    (1) Make sure that the power is turned on.
    (2) Press the COPY button.
    The copy standby screen will appear.
    (3) Load paper.
    Here we make sure that A4 plain paper is loaded in the Cassette.
    NOTE
    • Load A4, B5, A5, or Letter-sized plain paper in the Cassette. Load other sizes or types of paper in the Rear Tray.

    (4) Open the Paper Output Tray gently, and open the Output Tray Extension.
    (5) Load an original on the Platen Glass or in the ADF.
    To load the original on the Platen Glass, align it with the alignment mark WITH THE SIDE TO COPY FACING DOWN as shown below.
    Then close the Document Cover gently.


    NOTE
    • Characters and lines written with a light colored pen or highlight pen may not be copied properly.

    2. Start copying.
    (1) Use the Numeric buttons to specify the number of copies.
    (2) Use the or button (A) to specify the magnification.
    Here we select 100%.
    (3) Use the or button (B) to specify the copy intensity.
    Press the button to decrease the intensity and the button to increase the intensity. You can also select automatic intensity adjustment.
    (4) Press the right Function button (C) to select Print settings, and confirm the page size, media type, etc.
    Here we confirm that A4 is selected for Page size and Plain paper for Type.
    To change the settings, use the or button (Scroll Wheel) (A) to select the item to change, and use the or button (B) to select an option. After confirming or changing the settings, press the OK button to return to the copy standby screen.
    NOTE
    • You can check the preview of print result if you press the center Function button (D) when copying the original on the Platen Glass. The preview function is not available when copying the document in the ADF.
    • You can select various copy functions, such as Borderless copy, if you press the left Function button (E) to select Copy menu.

    (5) Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    The machine starts copying.
    Remove the original on the Platen Glass or the Document Output Slot after copying is completed.
    IMPORTANT
    • Do not open the Document Cover or move the loaded original until copying is completed.
    NOTE
    • Press the Stop button to cancel copying.
    • The machine can receive faxes even in the copy mode.

    Changing the Settings
    Press the right Function button to select Print settings on the copy standby screen. You can select the item, such as page size, media type, or print quality, and change the setting.



    (1) Magnif. (Magnification)
    Specify the enlargement/reduction manner. You can specify the copy scale by selecting the page size: A4 to A5, A4 to B5, etc. If you do not want to enlarge/reduce the page size, select SameMagnification.

    (2) Intensity
    Specify the intensity when you want to make the darkened/lightened copy. Select Auto to automatically adjust the intensity according to the original. When Auto is selected, the ADF is not available.

    (3) Page size
    Select the page size of the paper to print: A4, 8.5"x11" (LTR), etc.

    (4) Type (Media type)
    Select the media type of the paper to print: Plain paper, Plus Glossy II, etc.
    NOTE
    • If you do not select the page size and media type correctly, the machine may feed paper from the wrong paper source or may not print with the proper print quality.

    (5) Print qlty (Print quality)
    Select the print quality according to the original to copy: Standard, High, etc. The available print quality settings depend on the paper selected for Type.

    (6) 2-sided
    Select the scanning side of original and the printing side of paper: 1 -> 2sided print, 2 -> 1sided print, or 2 -> 2sided print.
    If you want to make a one-sided copy of a one-sided original, select OFF.

    (7) Layout
    Select the layout: 2-on-1 copy or 4-on-1 copy.

    (8) Print date
    Print the current date in the upper right margin of paper, according to the orientation of the original.

    (9) Print page no.
    Print a sequential page number in the lower center margin of paper, according to the orientation of the original.

    (10) Orientation
    Select the orientation of the original to copy: Portrait or Landscp..
    NOTE
    • If 2-sided is set, select A4 or 8.5"x11" (LTR) for Page size and Plain paper for Type.
    • If 2-on-1 copy or 4-on-1 copy is selected, select A4 or 8.5"x11" (LTR) for Page size.
    • If Borderless copy is selected, select 8.5"x11" (LTR), A4, 4"x6" (10x15cm), or 5"x7" (13x18cm) for Page size and any types of paper except Plain paper for Type. You cannot make a borderless copy of the document loaded in the ADF. Load the original on the Platen Glass.
    • If Borderless copy is selected, slight cropping may occur at the edges since the copied image is enlarged to fill the whole page.
    • The settings of the page size, media type, print quality, automatic intensity adjustment, etc. are retained, and these settings will appear next time when the copy mode is selected even if the power is turned off and on.
    • If the combination of some setting items is invalid, the mark appears at the invalid item. Press the left Function button to select Error details and check the error message, then correct the settings.
    • If you select Fast with the media type set to Plain paper and the quality is not as good as expected, select Standard or High and then try copying again.

    Using Useful Copy Functions
    Choose the copy method according to your purpose.

    • Two-sided copy
    You can copy two original pages onto both sides of a single sheet of paper, or the front and back pages of a double-sided original onto either both sides of a single sheet of paper or two sheets of paper.

    • Two-sided to Two-sided (2->2 sided print)
    (A) Long-side stapling
    (B) Short-side stapling
    • Two-sided to Single-sided (2->1 sided print)
    (C) Long-side stapling
    (D) Short-side stapling
    • Single-sided to Two-sided (1->2 sided print)
    (E) Long-side stapling
    (F) Short-side stapling

    1. Select Two-sided copy, then press the OK button.
    The default setting for two-sided copy is displayed. Two-sided copy is performed according to the settings on the LCD.

    2. Confirm the instruction on the LCD, then press the OK button.

    3. Change the settings for two-sided copy as necessary.
    (1) Press the right Function button.
    (2) Use the button to select 2-sided, then use the button to select a copy method.
    (3) Press the right Function button.
    (4) Use the button to select the stapling side, then press the OK button.
    (5) Press the OK button.

    4. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    • When the original document is loaded in the ADF:
    The machine starts copying automatically.
    • When the original document is loaded on the Platen Glass:
    After scanning of the first sheet of original is complete, load the second sheet of original on the Platen Glass, then press the OK button. If you have only one sheet of original to scan, press the button.
    NOTE
    • This function cannot be used when Fit to page is selected.
    • This function can be used in combination with 2-on-1 copy, 4-on-1 copy, or Collated copy.
    • If you perform black & white copying for Two-sided copy, print intensity may be different from when performing black & white copying for single-sided copy.
    • This function can only be used when the page size is set to A4 or 8.5"x11"(LTR). Two-sided to two-sided copying and two-sided to single-sided copying can only be performed for A4 or Letter-sized originals.
    • Select Plain paper for the media type; otherwise, copying does not start.
    • When the original document is loaded in the ADF, the document pages are not ejected in the original order by default. If you want the document pages to eject in the original order, set Two-sided paper output setting to Output by page.

    • 2-on-1 copy
    You can copy two original pages (A) (B) onto a single sheet of paper (C) by reducing each image.
    You can copy two original pages onto a single sheet of paper by reducing each image. In addition, when Two-sided copy is selected, you can copy four original pages on both sides of paper.



    1. Select 2-on-1 copy, then press the OK button.
    The default setting for 2-on-1 copy is displayed. 2-on-1 copy is performed according to the settings on the LCD.

    2. Confirm the instruction on the LCD, then press the OK button.

    3. Specify the layout as necessary.
    (1) Press the right Function button.
    (2) Use the button to select Layout, then make sure that 2-on-1 copy is selected.
    (3) Press the right Function button.
    (4) Use the button to select the layout, then press the OK button.
    NOTE
    • When you perform 2-on-1 copy in combination with double-sided copy, select the orientation of the original and the stapling side in 2-sided.

    (5) Press the OK button.

    4. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    • When the document has been loaded on the Platen Glass:
    When Placing documents (platen) is displayed on the LCD, load another sheet of document to scan on the Platen Glass and press the OK button.
    If you do not need more scanning, press the button to start copying.
    • When the document has been loaded in the ADF:
    The machine starts scanning the next sheet of document automatically after one sheet of document finishes being scanned.
    NOTE
    • If you loaded only one sheet of originals in the ADF, the machine performs 2-on-1 copy after scanning the first page. When loading originals on the Platen Glass, if you want to copy only the first sheet of originals, press the button after scanning the first page.
    • If Device memory is full. Cannot continue process. appears on the LCD when scanning, set the print quality to Standard or reduce the number of sheets of documents, then try copying again. If the problem is not resolved, set the print quality to Fast and try copying again.

    • 4-on-1 copy
    You can copy four original pages onto a single sheet of paper by reducing each image. For each orientation of the original document, four different layouts are available.



    1. Select 4-on-1 copy, then press the OK button.
    The default setting for 4-on-1 copy is displayed. 4-on-1 copy is performed according to the settings on the LCD.

    2. Confirm the instruction on the LCD, then press the OK button.

    3. Specify the layout as necessary.
    (1) Press the right Function button.
    (2) Use the button to select Layout, then make sure that 4-on-1 copy is selected.
    (3) Press the right Function button.
    (4) Use the button to select the layout, then press the OK button.
    NOTE
    • When you perform 4-on-1 copy in combination with double-sided copy, select the orientation of the original and the stapling side in 2-sided.

    (5) Press the OK button.

    4. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    • When the document has been loaded on the Platen Glass:
    When Placing documents (platen) is displayed on the LCD, load another sheet of document to scan on the Platen Glass and press the OK button.
    If you do not need more scanning, press the button to start copying.
    • When the document has been loaded in the ADF:
    The machine starts scanning the next sheet of document automatically after one sheet of document finishes being scanned.
    NOTE
    • If you loaded less than four sheets of originals in the ADF, the machine performs 4-on-1 copy after scanning the last page. When loading documents on the Platen Glass, if you want to copy less than four sheets of originals, press the button after scanning the last page to copy.
    • If Device memory is full. Cannot continue process. appears on the LCD when scanning, set the print quality to Standard or reduce the number of sheets of documents, then try copying again. If the problem is not resolved, set the print quality to Fast and try copying again.

    • Borderless copy
    You can copy images so that they fill the entire page without borders.



    1. Select Borderless copy, then press the OK button.

    2. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    NOTE
    • Load the document on the Platen Glass when using this function.
    • Slight cropping may occur at the edges since the copied image is enlarged to fill the whole page. You can change the width to be cropped from the borders of the original image as needed.

    • Image repeat copy
    You can copy an image multiple times onto a single page. You can set the machine to automatically select the number of times it repeats the image, or you can specify the number.



    1. Select Image repeat copy, then press the OK button.

    2. Select the setting item displayed on the LCD.
    Press the OK button to specify the setting.

    3. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    NOTE
    • When the settings below are specified, set the document on the Platen Glass. You cannot use the ADF.
    - Auto layout is selected.
    - Auto is selected for the intensity.
    • The area scanned from the original depends on the enlargement/reduction setting.

    • Collated copy
    You can obtain sorted printouts when making multiple copies of a multi-paged original. In addition, you can copy originals on both sides of paper.

    - Collated copy selected
    (A) Originals
    (B) Copy 1
    (C) Copy 2
    (D) Copy 3

    - Collated copy not selected
    (A) Originals
    (B) Copy 1
    (C) Copy 2
    (D) Copy 3

    1. Select Collated copy, then press the OK button.
    NOTE
    • When you perform collated copy in combination with double-sided copy, press the right Function button in Copy standby screen to select the orientation of the original and the stapling side in 2-sided.

    2. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    NOTE
    • Load the document in the ADF when using this function.
    • The number of pages the machine can read varies with the document. If Device memory is full. Cannot continue process. appears on the LCD when scanning, reduce the number of document pages to scan and try copying again.

    • Fade-restored copy
    You can obtain color-corrected printouts when copying documents that have faded over time.

    1. Select Fade-restored copy, then press the OK button.

    2. Press the Color button.
    NOTE
    • This function is only available when making color copies.
    • Load the document on the Platen Glass when using this function.
    • Fade Restoration is not guaranteed to be effective with any photograph.

    • Frame erase copy
    When copying thick originals such as books, you can make a copy without black margins around the image and gutter shadows. Using this function, you can reduce unnecessary ink consumption.



    1. Select Frame erase copy, then press the OK button.

    2. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    NOTE
    • Load the document on the Platen Glass when using this function.
    • Close the Document Cover.
    • There may be a narrow black margin that appears around the image. This function removes the dark margins only. If a scanned book is too thin or when the machine is used near a window or in a bright environment, a faint black frame may remain. Also, if the color of an original is dark, the machine cannot distinguish the document color from the shadow and this may cause slight cropping or a shadow on the crease.
    • When the Copy standby screen is displayed, pressing the center Function button allows you to preview an image of the printout on the preview screen.

    • Sticker copy
    You can make stickers easily with the specified layout using Canon sticker paper.



    1. Select Sticker copy, then press the OK button.

    2. Confirm the instruction on the LCD, then press the OK button.

    3. Make sure that Stickers x16 is selected, then press the OK button.
    NOTE
    • If any layout other than Stickers x16 is selected on the LCD, select Stickers x16 using the button.

    4. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    NOTE
    • Load the document on the Platen Glass when using this function.
    • You can only load one sheet of stickers at a time in the Rear Tray.
    • You cannot specify the settings other than intensity.

    • Binding margin copy
    You can copy the document with a margin for hole punching or binding.



    1. Select Binding margin copy, then press the OK button.

    2. Select the setting item displayed on the LCD.
    Press the OK button to specify the setting.

    3. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    NOTE
    • If the media type other than Plain paper is selected, copying does not start.
    • The machine reduces the area scanned from the original when a margin is added. As a default, the size of the original is set to SameMagnification. Therefore, the image may be cropped depending on the size of the original. When you scan the whole image, select Auto reduction for Magnif. in Print settings.

    • Punch hole removal
    When copying documents with punch holes, you can make a copy without punch hole marks.



    1. Select Punch hole removal, then press the OK button.

    2. Select the setting item displayed on the LCD.
    Press the OK button to specify the setting.

    3. Press the Color button for color copying, or the Black button for black & white copying.
    NOTE
    • Load the document on the Platen Glass when using this function.
    • If the media type other than Plain paper is selected, copying does not start.
